July 2010
July was a fairly busy month for us. We went to visit Brandon's parents in Chicago (along with some of his other family that was there at the same time) and Laura's parents in Peoria. We also took Will to his first county fair and to a local place called Connor Prairie (kind of a Williamsburg-type of place, with old-time houses and folks in costumes and a barn to pet animals). This month also marked his first trip to the ER. July 2010
June 2010
Finally, Will made it to the big number one. And it's a big accomplishment for us, too: we kept a baby alive for a year. Who'd have thunk it? We had a small party here with both our parents and Brandon's grandma and his aunt Judy (and her family). The afternoon party was followed up by the annual Italian Street Festival in downtown Indianapolis. The rest of the month we spent chasing down our increasingly mobile toddler... June 2010
May 2010
Our big outing this month was a weekend in Peoria where we skittered between various friends and family in an attempt to see as many people as possible. The reason for the weekend was the first birthday party of the son of Laura's cousin. Other milestones for the month: Will's first swim in a "real" pool at our friend Jane's house and our good-bye to Scarlett, who will now be living with Jane after some run-ins with Will. May 2010
April 2010
Only ten photos posted this month (have we finally run out of steam?). They include a couple from a brief visit with Laura's friend Maureen, and one of her dad reading to Will during a weekend visit. Will has gotten to be a proficient walker and is discovering new ways to cause trouble every day. April 2010
March 2010
Another fairly quiet month, save a nice, long weekend with Brandon's family near St. Louis. Will took his first steps this month and has been climbing on everything...and babbling, babbling, babbling. He keeps himself busy playing with toys, looking out the window and hunting down his nemesis, the vacuum. Laura is staying sane by visiting friends in town. March 2010
February 2010
Not much happened this month...pretty quite except for Will's run-in with rotovirus. We got to play in the snow a little bit before everything melted; Will started trying more and more foods; he started standing on his own; and we had some friends with small babies over to watch the Super Bowl. February 2010
January 2010
The start of the new year has been a busy month: we traded in Brandon's 1992 Accord for a 2007 Oddysey (we love it!), Will got his first two teeth and the Colts made a great run through the playoffs to get to Super Bowl XLIV. In between all that we also went to Peoria to have "Christmas" with Laura's parents and two grandmas. January 2010
Christmas 2009
We traveled to St. Charles, Ill., for Christmas with Brandon's parents and brother. During our visit we got to see some college friends of Brandon's (and the new baby of friends Pete and Kelli) and Laura's friend Sarah (along with her baby). On our last day in town we also stopped by the library, where Brandon's mom works, to show off her grandson. December 2009
December Photos
These are random pictures from the past month and include the trip we took to the St. Louis area for Brandon's uncle Tony's funeral. There are, as usual, Colts jersey's scattered through the pictures and lots of our little boy doing what he does best: hamming it up for the camera. December 2009
Tony Schuetzenhofer (Various Photos)
Brandon's uncle Tony Schuetzenhofer -- his mother's brother -- died suddenly on December 11 after a long hospitalization that began with the H1N1 flu. He had been on the road to recovery and things were looking up; Brandon's parents were actually on their way to St. Louis to see him because he had been waking up again. We can't imagine a much better person that we would have wanted Will to know and look up to -- he'll be dearly missed. Say a quick prayer for him and all his family as they deal with this tragedy. This gallery contains images Brandon found throughout the years on our computer. December 2009
Thanksgiving Photos
Laura and I spent Thanksgiving this year with her family -- mostly her dad's side (the Glancys) but also part of one day with her mom's side (the Soltows). There are too many people to name in the photos so I won't try! On our way back home we also spent the night with Will's godparents in Eureka, Ill. Will's highlight: practicing his flirting skills with his three second cousins who smothered him with attention. Brandon's highlights: visiting the John Deere headquarters on Friday and watching the Colts win their 20th regular season game in a row on Sunday. November 2009
November Photos
A good number of Colts photos in here...but can you blame me? Also some shots from a gathering of our parish marriage group and also from a funeral we attended for the father of Laura's stepmom, Jane. Other than that, just some assorted images from the month. November 2009
October Photos
This month we went to a fall festival at the local apple orchard with our friends from Chicago (the Mannings), had a visit by Grandma and Grandpa Evans and Laura got to see our friend Katie Berger (and her new baby) when she came to town. Bonus photo of the month: Will posing next to waffles with Star Trek characters on them (that's lame on so many levels...but they were on sale!). October 2009
Fall U of I Game / Peoria Visit
With the air chilly and some pumpkin ale on hand, it was time again for the annual Glancy tailgate and Illini football game (this year against Michigan State...I won't go into how the game went). This year we took Will to visit a couple of friends along with giving him plenty of time to see his grandparents and great uncles over the long weekend. Plus, Will got his first chance to see where his grandparents live (and where his mom once lived too!). October 2009
Will Evans -- September Photos
Apologies to friends and future children for posting so many photos of Will...but you must understand: there are people (literally family) who would come to my house and start cutting off fingers if I don't post regular photo updates of Will from every possible angle. And even if they don't come to hurt me, I'm just glad that these photos can keep them away in general. So, baby-hungry masses: eat up! September 2009
Will Goes to St. Louis
As a bookend to our visit to see Laura's extended family in the Quad Cities, we spent the last weekend of August visiting family from Brandon's mother's and father's sides. Among the highlights of the weekend -- other than a fleet of baby-handlers and diaper changers -- were two "four generation" photographs taken with different sides of the family. August 2009
Will Evans -- August Photos
This gallery is filled with miscellaneous images taken during the month of August (when we WEREN'T on the road). Yes, they're all here: baby Napoleon, the screaming engineer, sleeping baby taking the oath of office, little space monkey and my new favorite: baby looking intently at a ceiling fan. August 2009
Will Visits Dad at Work
Will has stopped by the office twice: once in August and once in September. A few pictures from each visit are included in this gallery. He wasn't terribly active (except for crying) the first time around, but by visit #2 he was sitting with dad at the computer. By this winter he'll probably be able to reprogram the computer...ugh...kids these days. July/September 2009
Will Goes to the Quad Cities
Rolling the dice, we packed Will and his accessories into the car and headed five hours west to the Quad Cities, along the Illinois-Iowa border, to visit Laura's extended family. We started by visiting some of her relatives on her mother's side -- great-grandpa Dick and some aunts and uncles -- and spent the rest of the weekend with her father and his family, including great-great-grandma Stella, who will be 99 later this year. August 2009
Will Evans -- July Photos
We've spent a wonderful, restful month this July with our new baby (as restful, that is, as a month that you can have with a new baby). No travel, no appointments, no major projects, no trees down in the yard. A lot of hard work, but also a lot of fun. Enjoy some pictures from an "uneventful" month. July 2009
Will Evans -- Baptism
Now that things have calmed down from a busy weekend over the Fourth of July, I can post a few pictures (some taken by us, some taken by Brandon's dad) of Will's baptism and the accompanying festivities -- sorry, no pictures of the fireworks! Despite rainy condition on the Fourth, the family and friends who joined us had a great time. July 2009
Will Evans -- More from His First Month
Yet more pictures of Will in his first month: visits from friends, lying around, posing with mom and dad, sleeping, bathing...basically, your standard issue baby shots. Once we teach him some more advanced tricks will post the results! June-July 2009
Will Evans -- Photos from Our Doula
Besides the photos we took before and during our hospital stay (and the birth of Will), our doula (birthing assistant) took tons of photos while Laura was hard at work laboring and then gave all of them to us on a disc some time after we got home. Enjoy some of these candid photos -- most of which are from the hospital. June 2009
Will Evans -- First Days at Home
A day and a half after coming home from the hospital with our new baby boy, Brandon's parents came to visit for a long weekend, helping us with projects around the house while we tried to catch up on sleep and take care of Will. This gallery includes such hits as: first bath, first walk around the neighborhood and, of course, crying! June 2009
Will Evans -- In the Hospital
Our son, William Glancy Evans, was born on June 9, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in downtown Indianapolis. We took along a camera to document the event, from leaving the house on Monday to coming home on Thursday -- most of the gallery being after the birth. June 2009
Glancy Family Baby Shower
Laura had her second baby shower in March, hosted by her stepmother and grandmother. It was mostly Glancy family and friends, but several members of her Soltow (mother's side) relative came as well. Her stepmother, Jane, hosted the event at her building (where her law practice is). March 2009
Evans Family Baby Shower
We lured Laura to visit my family in southern Illinois over the Valentine's Day weekend with the excuse that we were going to celebrate my father's birthday (which we did at a Japanese steakhouse). But on Saturday after the ladies of the family surprised her with a baby shower. See the whole weekend in the gallery! February 2009
Thanksgiving 2008
This year, Laura and I went to St. Louis for Thanksgiving and got to spend the weekend playing with my brother's new puppy, Riley (she's a Norfolk Terrier). We also put some good time in with the Nintendo Wii. The weekend was also a chance to share our good news with the family: that Laura is pregnant for our first child! November 2008
Thanksgiving 2008 (More)
This gallery is full of photos taken with my aunt Judy's camera -- Judy took the pictures at the house and Laura took most of them at a nighttime light parade held in a small town near Collinsville, Ill. It was a great time -- and in this gallery there are some good family shots as well as some priceless ones of the new puppy! November 2008
The Annual Illini Game
Every year we trek back to Champaign, Ill., where Laura and I met at college, and attend an Illini football game with Laura's family (thank you, grandma, for the tickets each year!). Not only was this years game a chance to tell everyone about our new baby, but the Illini killed the Indiana Hoosiers in a great night game. October 2008
Fall Visit in Chicago
We traveled to a suburb southwest of Chicago for a get together with our friends Sarah and Steve at their house. The Hoekstras and their two kids from Peoria also came, and we enjoyed the warm fall weekend by going to a pumpkin festival where, this being the Midwest, we enjoyed a good pig race. October 2008
Joe and Katie Chrisman's Wedding
Our friend Katie Berger, whose bachelorette party is featured in an older photo gallery, got married on the feast day of St. Francis in mid-northern Indiana (Remington) to Joe Chrisman. It was a great wedding with an exceptionally lively reception. October 2008
Summer Boating with the Nelsons
Having gotten a bumpy day of boating a few years ago with my aunt Judy and uncle Craig, they had Laura and I and my parents down to Collinsille, Ill., this summer for another go at it -- and the weather was perfect! We had an absolutely great day of boating, tubing, swimming and relaxing. Just what the doctor ordered! August 2008
Pete and Kelli Ogrodnik's Wedding
Pete is Brandon's junior year college roommate, who (finally!) got married this July to his high school sweetheart, Kelli. It was an all-Newman Center reunion and part of a very busy weekend, which included a trip to the hospital with some of Laura's other friends, a visit to Brandon's parents and the rehearsal dinner. Katie Berger's Bachelorette Party
Katie Berger, who's worked with Brandon as a freelance reporter and photographer for many of The Criterion's special projects, is getting married later this year (and has also, sadly, moved to Colorado). She was back in town for her bachelorette party a few weeks ago and Laura got the chance to have some fun with her and others. July 2008
Josh and Melissa (and the kids!)
Our friends Josh and Melissa Hoekstra from Illinois spent the weekend with us earlier in the summer, bringing in tow their two little ones, Aidan and Morgan. We spent an action-packed day going to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Museum, the city zoo and our parish's annual Italian Street Festival. June 2008
The McSparin's visit us!
Laura's aunt and uncle (Laura and Kevin McSparin) came to visit this Easter while on their way to Kentucky for a college visit with their daughter, Liz. We not only got to hang out with them for a couple of days, but, as you can see below, we dyed eggs (clearly the highlight of any weekend). We even dyed a batch of raw eggs. Why not? March 2008
Richard Soltow's 80th Birthday
We traveled to the Quad Cities this spring to celebrate the 80th birthday of Laura's grandpa, Richad Soltow ("Paw"). It was a chance to briefly catch up with tons of family, and one of the highlights was the inclusion of a couple of large collages of photos from Paw's life -- and I've included the chance to download high-resolution photos of them. March 2008
Christmas in Chicago
Being with Brandon's family for Christmas is sort of a double-holiday, because of his mother's birthday on Dec. 22. This year for her birthday we went to Chicago for a dinner at The Melting Pot and drinks atop the Hancock Tower, and for Christmas we stayed inside and warm. We also had drinks with my mother's friends one night. December 2007
Our first Thanksgiving at home
Due to the illness of our cat, Lola (yes, our cat...), Laura and I had to miss Thanksgiving with the family in Moline, Ill., and stay in over the holiday break. We made the best of it, serving up highly unconventional salmon, but also bring some tradition into the mix with mashed potatoes. November 2007
Colts play the New England Patriots
Thanks to a friend whose cousin is a chaplain for the Indianapolis Colts, I had the chance to attend my first NFL game win Indy (7-0) played the New England Patriots (8-0) on Nov. 4 at the RCA Dome. Though we narrowly lost in the fourth quarter (24-20), it was a rivoting game that my and my friend Sean spend on our feet the whole time. November 2007
Grandma "Bo's" 75th Birthday
Just a week after a 40th birthday surprise for Laura's uncle, we nearly doubled the years (and the mileage on the car!) by going to Chicago to surprise my grandma (mother's side) with lunch on Navy Pier and then a festive evening at home. The best part was, of course, surprising her with her children from southern Illinois who had come. October 2007
Danny's 40th Birthday
Laura's uncle Danny Soltow (mother's side) turned 40 this week, so we trekked out to Moline, Ill., to join other family and friends for a suprise party at a local restaurant. Despite being foiled ten years prior, Sheila successfully left her husband in the dark until the big event. October 2007
Corn maze and cider!
During the beginning of a busy month, we had a relaxing weekend with our friend Katie Berger, who works at a Newman Center on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. We took the chance to visit the local apple orchard (Beasley's) and partake in fresh apples, cider and caramel apples, while also getting lost in a corn maze. October 2007
Our strange friend Bambinek
This gallery is composed of photos from a visit we were paid by the Bambinek family (the first four photos) and then a visit that we paid to them in Champaign (the rest of the photos). John is many things -- rogue politician comes to mind -- but somehow, and only because of his wife, Rebekah, we are friends with him. Featured: their son, Michael. September 2007
Laura's high school reunion
Laura graduated from Notre Dame High School in Peoria, Ill., in 1997, making this July the time for her 10-year high school reunion. We spent a great weekend in Eureka with Laura's high school friend, Melissa (along with her husband, Josh, and son, Aidan), which included a chance to see her parents and her friends Sarah and Steve (married). July 2007
Trip to Chicago
We took a long weekend at the start of July and visited my parents in Chicago -- we went downtown to see my brother's new apartment and also got to spend some time at the Adler Planetarium and Millennium Park. On our way out of town Sunday we also visited our friends Kevin and Monika, and their daughter, Lily. July 2007
Anthony and Angela's Wedding
Our friends Anthony and Angela's wedding finally arrived this June, and we made the whirlwind trip to Scranton for the event. The wedding Mass was in the Byzantine-Ruthenian Rite, and was full of richness and symbolism -- with a homily reminding the couple of the centrality of Jesus Christ to their marriage. June 2007
The Christine Glancy Collection
A pretty fance name for a collection of knick-knicks and kitchen items, but there are many treasures to be found amidst the large number of items that Christine collected. This photo gallery is mainly intended for members of Laura's family who may be interested in taking any of these items and adding it to their own collection. June 2007
Colts win the Super Bowl!
This gallery is composed of photos taken over the course of the two weeks between the Indianapolis Colts' AFC Championship victory and their win at Super Bowl XVI over the Chicago Bears (29-17). The images progress from a pre-Super Bowl rally to a post-Bowl victory rally inside the RCA Dome in downtown Indianapolis. January-February 2007
Christmas in the Quad Cities
We spent Christmas this past year in the Quad Cities (Laura's dad's side lives in Moline and some of her mom's side live in Rock Island -- both in Illinois). The first portion of this pictures are of Laura's Soltow relatives, while the latter photos are from the Glancy side. December 2006
Visit with Angela and Anthony
We made a trip to Scranton, Pa., to visit our friends Angela and Anthony (engaged to be married next year) in December. We got to see train yards and museum in Scranton, had several chances to pray and attend Divine Liturgy in Byzantine-Ruthenian churches, and even got to check out the impressive Statehouse in Harrisburg. December 2006
Lola
This is our newest pet: a black cat that we rescued from the Indianapolis pound. She was about five months old and named "Loca" (that is, "crazy"). We renamed her "Lola," but that doesn't take away from her craziness. Here are some shots from the first weeks at home, including our other cat's reaction to her. Fall 2006
Scarlett Growing Up
These are some photos of our dog as a puppy -- they were really posted as a test of the new photo gallery style, but I decided to keep them up. Summer 2003
Italian Street Festival
Some family came in for our parish's annual Italian Street Festival, which was a success despite some rain. Our friend, and Brandon's co-worker, took some pictures at the actual festival, and Laura took some shots of us playing dominos and having fun back at home. June 2006
Trip to Nashville
Brandon went to Nashville at the end of May for a Catholic Press Association Convocation, and while the following gallery doesn't contain photos from the actual convocation, it does have pictures of the trip down with friends Sean and Cindy Gallagher (they hit a few Catholic "tourist" spots along the way in Kentucky) and some shots of the replica of the Parthenon in Nashville. May 2006
Cavalcade of Random Photos
I browsed through our photos and found all the recent shots that didn't really fit in any category. So...here are pictures that range from the bizarre to the boring. Enjoy! May 2006
Birthday in Collinsville
We spent Brandon's 27th birthday (April 22) with his parents and extended family in Collinsville (outside of St. Louis on the Illinois side). It was also the chance for us to attend the birthday party of Brandon's young cousin and the baptism of the same cousin's brother. April 2006
Trip to Washington, D.C.
We traveled to D.C. to visit our friends Jamie and Jeanine (and son, Jack). While their we did some of the usual tourist stuff as well as shared some good times with friends. March 2006
A Stop in Hershey
While on the way to Washington, we stopped for a few nights in Pennsyvania to visit our friends Angela and Anthony. They were only a stone's throw from Hershey and, being a candy freak, I couldn't say no. March 2006
A Visit with Father Nestor
Father Nestor is an old friend from our Newman Center at the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign. He's a priest from Australia who was nearby, so along with some friends we paid him a visit. July 2005
Belizean Wedding
Laura's dad, Steve, got married last year to Jane Ohaver, a lawyer (like Steve) from Peoria. The wedding was held in Belize and we had the privilege to go -- Laura's uncle Chris, a Catholic priest, witnessed the marriage (he is a missionary priest in Belize). February 2005
